Inktober is a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it. I had a very busy weekend. There was an art show and sale put on by the Oshawa Art Association. I wasn’t in the Fall Art Festival but I did volunteer at it. As a result the last two days’ drawings didn’t get posted. So here they are.
Saturday’s drawing I call The Long Stare. This girl looks lost in thought. It might of been titled Less is More. The face had very little shadow and the hair was light coloured so the drawing was mainly outlines.
The drawing was inspired by a photo by Bianca Berndt found on Unsplash.
The second drawing, Sunday’s, is next. I am still experimenting with ways to show shadows and molding with ink drawings. Crosshatching is a method that I have been avoiding. I did not think I had the patience to draw all those lines. Also I did not particularly like the look. But yesterday I decided to try it. I had a drawing that need lots of shading and I have not been happy with my shading when there was a lot of it. So here is a drawing of a boy reading out loud – with crosshatching.
As you can see, my crosshatching was done with too thick lines too far apart. I will try a finer pen next time.
