Today’s drawing is from an old memory of mine.
Chickadees can be very trusting. If you hold out your hand with bird seed in it they will come and eat right out of it.
This was a trick I used to do when I lived in the country. It would not take long for the Chickadees to come down to my hand. I am not sure if this shows that the little birds are intelligent, or foolhardy, or just very greedy. I was never able to entice other wild birds this way. Seagulls don’t count. They will come and steal the food right out of your hand even if you have no intention of sharing with them.
Feeding the Chickadees is amongst my good memories of my time in the bush.
Three Temari Balls
These three balls are named, from left to right, Daffodil, Iris, and Trillium. By using similar shapes in slightly different ways you can get varied results.
The balls sit in a long, narrow, wooden dish on my bookshelves. Displaying temari can take a little imagination. I have used large bowls for piles of balls. For individual balls different types of candlesticks work well. Very small bowls, like candy dishes, will hold single balls too. What I use most is napkin rings. If they are large enough a ball will sit in them well and be raised one or two inches. Mainly, whatever keeps them from rolling around will do.
Painting
Years ago I was sent a photo of a painting from Pinterest and I really admired it’s style. Unfortunately I did not save the name of the artist. I changed the painting some, mainly colours. It’s loose and wild structure appealed to me. It is supposed to be black-eyed susans. The naturally growing flowers in Canada are amongst my favourite.
