Inktober 23rd

inktober: a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it.

Today it is a drawing of a boy on a swing. This one is from a photo taken by Myles Tan and found on Unsplash.

It is getting easier to do these drawings. When I started this I had not done ink drawings before. Now I have done 25 of them. (Two were so bad no-one will ever see them.) I was going to add colour with watercolor paint but decided at the first that it was too much to try to learn that at the same time as I was learning ink drawing.

I have kept it simple, picking subjects that take about one hour or less to do. Then there is another hour to post the drawing and other things and write a bit about them. This leaves me with still enough time to work on Temari balls, quilts, and paintings.

Painting

This painting of a park bench in the snow was done several years ago. The trick to painting falling snow is to place each flake carefully and individually. If you start to hurry and don’t watch yourself you place the flakes in lines of dots instead of randomly.

This is the only winter scene I have done. I was fascinated by the effect of the lights on the snow.

Temari Ball

Here is another dandelion ball. This one has ten faces with a flower in each face. Some of the flowers have gone to seed.

A few seeds drift around the ball. One flower has been visited by a bee.

This ball is 42 cm in circumference. It is stitched with perle cotton, weight #5.
