inktober: a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it.
Here is a woman in Victorian costume under a very old tree. Our local Historical Society had an event yesterday in the park behind the museum called History in the Park. Lots of interesting artifacts on display and people in costume explaining the exhibits. The weather was perfect and the attendance was satisfying under these Covid conditions. There was a steady stream of visitors without any crowding.
I took pictures of this friend in her costume with today’s drawing in mind.
There is less than a week of October left, so inktober is almost over. I am still learning how to use lines to depict texture, tone, and light. Hopefully another week will see more improvement in my work.
Painting
An artic fox in a winter landscape; the painting was done a couple of years ago. The vibrant colour of the fox against the neutrals of the snowbound tundra were what caught my eye. The fact that the paws were hidden by the snow made the whole thing much easier.
This is an acrylic painting on canvas, 12×10 inches.
Temari Ball
This green and gold temari is a more traditional ball than most of the ones I have shown so far. It is a geometric pattern repeated over a web of guide lines. It has six faces which each hold the diamond shape shown on the left. The top and bottom of the ball, or the north and south poles, has a layered kiku design which is shown on the right photo.
The ball is 33 cm around. The designs are done with Perle cotton #5 and Kreinik cord in metallic green.
I have, in the past, focused mainly on creating non-traditional balls. Perhaps it is time to work at developing more skill in producing the very intricate and demanding traditional patterns.
