Inktober 28

inktober: a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it.

Wild roses used to grow on the path through the bush to the beach, back up north. There were always bees buzzing around them. Here is another memory brought back in a drawing.

The reference for this drawing was a photo by Jeanne Blanche found on Unsplash.

Drawing a bug is not that easy if you want to make it at all realistic. I wanted it to stand up to the eyes of someone who knows their bees.  So as well as the reference photo I looked up bee anatomy. The internet could use a good diagram of the placement of the wings and legs.  Wikipedia had nothing on bee anatomy.

Temari Ball

The ball today has an all over design. Nothing of the original ball surface is left uncovered.

This is a traditional design. The ball is a medium size, 28.5 cm around, done in fall colours of rust, orange, and green. The pattern of zigzags spirals seamlessly from one side of the ball to the other.

Painting

I don’t do many still life paintings. Mainly I do landscapes with people in them. I was pleased by the result here. Perhaps I should try more of these.

This painting is acrylic on canvas board. It is 11×14 in and was painted from real life. However, I have never tried for absolute realism. I am in awe of the skill and talent that realistic painters exhibit. I feel that I am still finding my own voice when it comes to painting, but I am drawn to the post impressionist era. So even though I struggled to get a recognizable reproduction of the items in this still life, I broke out in the background and played with colour.
