I have been busy trying to get a quilt top done. As well I started two temari balls and a new painting, which I hope to have finished by Thursday. Time seems to be going very fast lately and there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish what I want.
The painting today is of daylilies in a friend’s garden. They were abundant and rich in colour. One of my favourite flowers. Originally from Asia, they were brought to North America by European immigrants. By the early 1800’s they had become naturalized and can be seen growing wild in the ditches.
This is acrylic on stretched canvas and is 12×16 inches.
Swirl Temari Ball
The ball is divided into six faces and each face holds a swirl of stitches done in variegated thread. It measures 27 cm around, rather on the small side.
I have been trying to straighten out the area where my threads and other temari supplies are stored. I think I have enough cotton thread to do a hundred balls. Still, it seems that every time I start a new ball I don’t have just the right colours and have to buy some more. Perhaps I should be looking at the thread and planning a ball based on the colours I have instead of planning a ball and then looking for the thread.
I have the same trouble with material for quilting – lots of cloth but not the right colours or patterns for what I want to make.
Painting has a different problem. What do you do with all the finished paintings? They are piling up – literally. I have given away a few but until I started this blog for inktober very few people even knew I painted, It is harder to give a painting as a present than it is to give a quilt or temari ball. I have few of my balls and quilts. Most have gone to other homes.
Storage for all these things is getting to be a problem.
