Hungry Caterpillar

Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children’s book by Eric Carle. This small quilt was made with two panels in the center, illustrations from his book. The border of butterflies and the pieced borders on the sides were my own design.

Like most of the quilts I still have, this is just the top. It still needs to be layered with the batting and backing and quilted. This is what is called a UFO – an UnFinished Object.

Mystery Quilt Progress

I said last posting that I was seriously thinking about starting another quilt – the  Mystery Quilt quilt-along done by Bonnie K. Hunter. Well when the first clue came out on Friday I downloaded a copy of the directions and this afternoon I started working on them.

The directions were to make a lot of half-square triangles. I used the light purple material and my neutrals – the white and cream – for this.

This is about half of the half-square triangles that are needed. I hope to have the rest done by this Friday when a new clue comes out. I don’t want to get behind!

There is a complication to working on the Mystery Quilt clues – I need to be quilting the two quilts that I sandwiched last week.  The sewing machine set-up needed to do quilting, especially free-motion quilting, is not the same as the set-up to do patchwork piecing. And it is not practical to keep switching the machine back and forth.

I do have a solution, however. I will use one of my vintage machines, probably the old Singer, to do the piecing and leave my big machine for the quilting. My work area is going to be crowded!

Painted Sketch

This is a sketch of a poinsettia plant that I did before I painted the plant on canvas. It was done with acrylics on multi-media paper.

Frozen Temari Ball

This ball is a small one, 23.5 cm around. It is called Frozen on the suggestion of a young friend of mine. The ball is wrapped in aqua thread and then the pattern was stitched on it in two shades of green, two shades of purple and silver metallic thread.
