This painting was done a while ago. It reminds me of my years spent canoeing and camping. We usually went for the white water but sometimes you have to cross a lake to get to the more exciting river run.
It wasn’t as stimulating as shooting rapids but crossing a lake had its own appeal. There is nothing as quiet as the middle of a lake – just the paddlers and canoes, the breeze and the slap of waves. Your muscles are stretched pulling the paddles without the help of riding the current. It was peaceful, but you knew that just around that rocky point was the start of the river.
This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, 14×11 inches.
Tiny Temari Ball
This is the smallest temari ball I have ever made. It is only 11.5 cm around, The ball was divided into two sections and then interlocking spindles were stitched on each side. Where the points of the spindles meet a stitch called pine needles was done. The thread used for the pattern was one strand of embroidery floss in green, pink, and white.
Mystery Quilt
A new clue for Bonny K. Hunter’s mystery quilt! Every Friday directions for one section of the quilt is posted. The mystery is we won’t know what the quilt looks like until all the sections are done and the big reveal happens.
Two weeks ago we were instructed to make a quantity of half-square triangles, shown on the right. This week we are to take those half-square triangles and add wings to them, which is the picture on the left. This makes the square piece into a larger triangle.
I am getting behind in the constructions of the clues. I have been so focused on quilting a Christmas present quilt that I have not had time to do all the pieces of last week’s clue and I doubt that I will have time to catch up this week either. But it really doesn’t matter – I can catch up after Christmas!
