I have a hibiscus plant in my dining room and it blossoms often. The flowers of the hibiscus only last one day so I decided to create a lasting image of them.
This is done in acrylic paint on stretched canvas and measures 16X12 inches.
Quilting
Eye-Spy Quilt
Well I finally finished the Eye-Spy quilt and mailed it off to my relative. It should get there in time for Christmas!
Here is a picture of it finished and a close up of the hexagons. There are 159 hexagons, each one cut from a different piece of cloth. Many of the hexagons were fussy cut to put a figure, flower, bird or some motif in the center of the patch. It was a long time in the making, but it is finally done. Like most of my finished quilts it is no sooner done than it is out the door. Someday I am going to finish a quilt and keep it for myself!
It was a simple pattern that I designed on my own, though I am sure it has been done many times before. What amazed me about the whole thing is that I had enough different pieces of material in my fabric stash to do this quilt! Didn’t realize just how large my stash was.
There is a saying among quilters that we actually have two hobbies – quilting and collecting material!
Start of Something New
With one big quilt out of the way I decided to make something for a friend for Christmas, a quilted table runner. I downloaded a pattern from Connecting Threads called Gathering Friends by PineRose Designs, which seemed to be very appropriate. My friend loves to surround herself with friends and relatives. The pattern uses a traditional block called Friendship Star. Here is a picture of one of the blocks.
This block measures 5 inches square. There are two other types of blocks in the pattern. The whole table runner will finish at about 42×16 inches.
Progress on the Mystery Quilt
There actually has been no progress on the Mystery quilt. I have been too busy with other things. I have looked with yearning at the project box that holds the material for the quilt and the bits of the clues that I have gotten done but I have restrained myself. Now that the Eye-Spy quilt is finished and mailed I may celebrate by taking an hour or two tonight to work on the clues for the Mystery quilt.
