A Beginning on Irises

A Beginning on Irises

readerjean

I have been off line for a while, a week actually. I have Covid. Just a mild case but it has me feeling very weak and lethargic. I have slept more in the last week than I usually sleep in a month. But it seems to be passing and I am trying to get back into my routines.

Most of the week I did very little painting or sewing. The last two days I have started a new painting, a small one of irises. The pictures here are of the second pass over two of the three blossoms. There is still work to be done on these flowers and the rest of the painting, but I decided to show the progress I am making.

It is a small painting, 11×14 inches. I thought that the size and the subject would make for an easy project. I was wrong. I will show you the final painting next week.

Knitting

Though I haven’t been doing much painting and no sewing this Covid week, I have been knitting. I knit a hat – a slouch hat. I fell in love with the colours of the yarn when I was shopping with a friend just before I got sick. She was the one looking for yarn, but when I saw the vibrant hues I bought two skeins and decided what to make with them after I got home.

This is Lion Brand Yarns in Landscapes pattern and medium weight (4).

This hat was the result. It is a pattern called River Rush Slouch Hat from Balls to the Walls Knits. It is a little tricky but as long as you keep track of what row you are on it is not too hard.

What was hard was taking a picture of me wearing the hat! Ever tried to take a selfie of the side of your head?  I had to use a hand mirror to see what was on the phone’s screen. So I had one hand holding the phone, one holding the mirror, and not a finger to spare to push the button! Much juggling ensued. The resulting picture was not very clear, but I wasn’t going to try again.
