Hello again!
This lap quilt top was made quite a while ago and has been waiting for quilting. It is a crazy quilt with appliqued squares added on point. The pattern was my own design.
It was my first time making crazy quilt blocks – where you grab any colour and shape and sew it on until you have a block the size you want.
It was the first applique I did. The flowers were done by raw-edge applique with a satin stitch used to fasten them down. The white squares the applique was done on were set on point in the quilt.
This was also the first time I made a prairie point edge. If you look down at the bottom of the picture you can see the edge of the quilt. It is done in slightly overlapping, folded triangles of material. When this quilt is layered it will have to be placed right sides together and sewn all around the edges. Then the layers will be turned right sides out leaving the points of the edging sticking out of the finished borders.
I think this is the first time I have shown anyone this quilt top! I really should get around to quilting it.
Roses Temari Ball
Today’s temari ball was made for a friend.
The ball itself is actually wrapped in a pale green thread. Then it is divided into a complex 10 marking, which results in 12 faces on the ball. The marking is done with white Perle cotton.
Each face has a traditional rose pattern in it. So I gave my friend a dozen roses. Every rose has a different combination of pink and red Perle cotton threads.
Each rose is surrounded by a hexagon of light green woven bands with metallic gold thread outlining them.
Mystery Quilt
I continue to try and get caught up with the clues of the Mystery quilt, but other things keep getting in the way. Like playing Scrabble with my friends. Today I got a seven letter word in each of the two games we played! I also was at the local quilt shop looking for fabric for the Mystery Quilt. All in all it was a very good day!
I know I said that I wasn’t going to buy any material for this Mystery quilt but get it all from what was in my fabric stash. However I was running out of purples and was forced to go shopping for more. Fortunately I had a gift certificate for the quilt shop so I didn’t actually spend any money. So I didn’t actually buy anything! (I have never claimed to be good at logic but that seems to be reasoned out correctly to me.)
I have finished all of part three, adding wings to the half-square triangles to make them into larger triangles. I’ve also made a start on part four. However there are seven parts already out. I am far behind!
