Eye-Spy Quilt

Today I finished this quilt top. This is just the top, it still needs to be layered with the batting and backing and quilted. I call the pattern Eye-Spy. Each hexagon is from a different piece of material. There are 159 pieces represented in this quilt top. All from my own stash.  And I didn’t use every piece of material I had.

I devised the pattern myself but I am sure it has been done before. The quilt is a twin size and measures 63×91 inches.

I have been tempted to start another quilt lately but am trying to resist for two reasons:

First, I would have to buy some more material for the quilt. Despite the ridiculous amount of pieces I have I don’t have enough of the right colours.

Second, I have two quilts that need to be finished for Christmas and they both still need to be layered and quilted. I just do not have time.

These are both good reasons to resist but – it is a Mystery Quilt called Rhododendron Trail. It is being done by Bonnie K. Hunter from her Quiltville website. Her patterns are beautiful and the Mystery Quilt-alongs are free!  Once the quilt-along starts Bonnie posts directions for a part of the blocks once a week, on Fridays. The complete quilt is a mystery until the big reveal at the end!

The Mystery starts on Nov. 26.

I just may do it.

Painting

The painting is called Looking Forward, and was inspired by a photo taken by a friend of her daughter. The figure in part shadow against the bright light ahead of her caught my eye and imagination.

This is acrylic on stretched canvas. It is 16×12 inches.

Temari Ball

The ball is a more traditional one with an interwoven pattern. The design is what is called a continuous path – the pattern has no separate pieces but is done in one long, continuous stitching line. You can start at one point and follow the pattern once around the whole design before you come back to the place you started.

This ball is done in Perle cotton #5 and measures 30.5 cm around.
