Inktober: A challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it online.
I have taken up the challenge, and it will be a challenge for me. I have not made ink drawings before. To add to my difficulty I will use watercolors as well, and I have never used watercolors.
This is my first drawing. It took about 30 minutes to do. My hope is that I will improve through the month. I have a lot to learn.
This rose is from a friend’s garden. I chose it for my first try because of the simplicity. The drawing only took 30 minutes, but watching YouTube videos on watercolor used up a couple of hours. I need to do much more research on painting and ink drawing.
As well the learning curve for creating the blog is rather steep, despite the claims otherwise.
Inktober drawings are not the only thing I will be posting. I make Temari (Japanese embroidered thread balls), acrylic paintings, and quilts.
Here are some of my temari.
I have been making Temari for about six years. One day I was in the local public library and they had a display of craft books. One of them was a how-to-make Temari book. I borrowed it and fell in love with the colourful balls.
Most of the quilts I have made have been traditional patchwork, but I am learning how to make art quilts as well.
Art quilts use pieces of cloth to create a picture. It can be a landscape, still life, portrait, or any thing you can do with paints including abstract images.
Here is my first art quilt. It is a portrait of my grandson. The whole thing is made of cloth pieces.
Tomorrow I will have another inktober drawing to post. Hopefully it will be an improvement over today’s drawing!
