Inktober: a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it.
Today’s drawing is an old apple tree I see on a path in a conservation area. This spring this tree with the hollow in it’s trunk was covered with white blossoms. It’s indomitable spirit struck me as an image of hope and renewal.
The deer that frequent the area will enjoy the fallen apples when they ripen.
I spent more time on this drawing than I have yet. I am not sure there is any improvement in my ink drawing, but I am finding ways to get the effects I want. My determination to keep to simple subjects and drawings but to do one a day still holds.
Landscape Temari Ball
When I was just starting creating temari balls a friend teased me that she would believe I was making up my own patterns when I did a ball with a landscape. This was the result.
It is very stylized but it is evergreen trees by a river with the sun in the sky and birds flying.
The top of the ball is the sun. It is done with some very traditional patterns.
The bottom of the ball represents water.
This is also done with traditional patterns. In all it is a very unique, untraditional ball but the different patterns used are well known temari patterns. It is many years since I made this ball but it remains one of my favourite.
