Inktober: a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it.
Every day I learn a little bit more about ink drawings. I hope that I am improving.
Today’s drawing is a portrait of a relative of mine. It really doesn’t look much like her but I can’t see just how to fix it. If it were a painting I would fiddle with colour and lines until it improved by trial and error. Can’t do that much with ink. The nose is wrong. The eyes and mouth are almost right.
Whatever it’s defects, it is the drawing for today. So I posted it.
Oh, yes, her hair is really in dreadlocks.
Painting of a Bear
This acrylic painting is an amalgam of photos from Unsplash, with a touch of creative editing. I did this one a few months ago, and I am pleased with how it came out.
Patchwork Quilt
This quilt was made for a gift. The pattern is by Georgette De Orco and is called Hanging Garden. It was pieced and quilted on my 40 year old Kenmore sewing machine. It is a lap quilt size, and is done with Christmas Fabric.
Some people do not understand why quilters make quilts. After all, you can buy a blanket or even a manufactured quilt for a lot less than the material for a handmade quilt will cost. Quilting is a craft, and sometimes an art, that provides a creative outlet that can have a practical side. The reason for creating a quilt is the same as the reason for any fine art or hands on craft. It satisfies the soul and provides special beauty to the world. Whether you put the quilt on the bed or hang it on the wall, it is a work of art.
