Lilacs and Woven Patterns

Lilacs and Woven Patterns

Lilacs are one of my favourite flowers, along with roses, iris, daisies, geraniums, marigolds, chrysanthemums, and …  Alright, I guess I like all flowers.  And I never get tired of painting them.

This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, 11×14 inches. It was done at a time when I was just starting to play with colour, especially in the background.  It could use some retouching in a few places. Since I haven’t signed it I feel that I can go back and change things as I want.  Sooner or later I will accept it as finished, but not yet.

Woven Temari Ball

This intricate ball is done in pink and blue crochet cotton. It is one of the most difficult I have done because of the complicated weaving pattern. It’s divided into a C10, or complex 10, marking. With that division you end up with 12 centers or faces. The marking was done with silver metallic thread.

Each of the marked faces contains a star which is the center of one weaving pattern. Each pattern connects to the ones around it in an intricate design of over and under bands.

The photo below shows some of the weaving detail.

Mystery Quilt

I am still plugging along at the clues for the 2021/2022 Mystery quilt, Rhododendron Trail.  It is, as usual, pure pleasure to work with one of Bonnie K. Hunter’s quilt patterns. I should have some progress to show by Friday, but then a new clue will come out and I will be scrambling to get that done!
