This is the first post without an ink drawing! After 31 days of inktober – a challenge to create an ink drawing every day in October and post it – I am finding it strange to not be doing a drawing and posting every day. But I really need the time for painting, quilting and working on temari balls. So I am going to try posting twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. My concern is that I will not have enough work to present twice a week!
Hang on – it may be a wild ride!
Painting
I just finished this painting. It was inspired by memories of running rapids in a canoe when I was much younger and lived up north. We would get dropped off upstream and spend a couple of days riding the river down to a pick up point. We made sure that there would be some white water involved in the run.
This is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas, 20×16 inches. For references I used several photos from Unsplash and my own memories and imagination. We never took pictures when we were young. Didn’t have cell phones with cameras in them!
Temari Ball
This ball has an all over pattern that covers the ball completely. It is comprised of woven bands done with two variegated colours, green and yellow.
The ball is small, only 24 cm around. It is divided into six faces, each face with a square of bands in it. Then four bands that completely circle the ball are woven through the squares, two in each direction. It is not as complicated as it looks, but it is tricky to get the weaving correct.
